Over the past 3 years since we've lived in this condo, our bedroom has seen many wall colors and decor choices. I can't help it - it's my nature! I love changing design up frequently, and I also love the fact that I have all of it chronicled here, to go back and look at. I found myself looking at old blog posts yesterday, so I thought I would show you guys a little re-cap, incase any of you (and I know there are some!) are new readers that haven't seen my "old" bedroom.
This is the beauty that we started out with:
right after we moved in. The walls of this whole condo were yellow (and ceilings, too), and I have slowly but surely painted all of them. We actually just had our stairwell ceiling and walls painted, too, but we hired that out, since I refuse to paint on 2-story stairs. (too scary) Anyway... the room was a blank canvas, and as soon as we closed, I painted it dark chocolate brown:
Very Jonathan Adler on the cheap. :)
I did a little tweaking with it like that...
got some cute sheets and new accessories, and also painted my midcentury modern nightstands pale blue ... the ceiling is still yellow, though!
and, I made some personalized artwork:
After a while, I got tired of that look, and painted it dark dark grey-blue-black, with an accent wall behind the bed. I drew out a sketch before I did it:
and voila!
(still yellow ceiling)
I tweaked this look a lot too, and things got really bright and crazy:
The night stands also got painted turquoise and I grasscloth wallpapered the insides of them.
(notice I moved my curtains up higher, which I think makes a big difference)
This look was featured on i suwannee blog by the talented and hilarious Jamie Meares, which made me really happy!
of course, all bright colorful things come to an end, though, and i got tired of that, too. I was quite inspired by my friend Heather Roberts with this one (her dining room is the same shade), when I decided to paint my bedroom a pale turquoise (Which it still is, and I still love).
Orange accents of course add that "pop" of color. (what did design-types do before the term "pop of color" come up? it's hard not to use it)
I spraypainted some ginger jar thrift store lamps orange, and added the mirrored side tables. The lamps always bothered me, though, because I didn't spray paint them well (I know, weird), and they had dust on the paint job. Eventually, I changed them out for the old midcentury side tables again, which I painted white. Also, I brought the little swing arm lamps upstairs, which I painted dark black-brown.
and this is basically what it looks like now, with a few minor tweaks.
Did you notice the one consistent thing in here? The white bedding! My favorite. Also, the ceiling is finally white (it was painted when I painted the room the blue color)!
I can't wait to decorate a new house!
i love all of these looks. Purrty.

ReplyDeleteHow great that you can go back and look at the befores to see what it used to look like. I always forget and then wonder if I made the right decision. I look forward to seeing pictures when you get your new house! Love your blog!

ReplyDeleteSo excited to see you decorate your new space! Where did you get the storage at the end of your bed? I'm currently trying to find something for our bedroom.
ReplyDeleteLove the evolution of your bedroom space! The bold colors looked great, but my favorite has got to be the blue.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do next :)

I really love how this space has changed over time. Scrolling through I thought for sure the red+white graphic wall would be my favorite, but by the end I was so in love with the turquoise and how light and airy the room feels now. I got inspired to start my own blog and I featured you in my second post! I love your work. thelittlerobinsnest.blogspot.com
