Painted Nursery Furniture

A few weeks back, I painted this furniture for a nursery. My client bought the pieces off Craigslist, then had me paint them. It's always nice to make pieces feel like they actually belong in the same room. I don't have photos of the actual pieces I painted, but I found some on google to show you guys what they kind of looked like.

The dresser was only $20. It was in really, really rough shape. Someone had spraypainted it (in my opinion, a rookie mistake when painting furniture, unless it's small and doesn't have many planes), and it was a cloudy finish, not to mention it had drip marks all over.

This dresser I'm showing you guys actually looks 100 times better, but you get the idea!

The little bookshelf was just solid wood, and a mapley orangey stain.

I painted them both, and added stripe detail, and now they actually look like they belong in the same nursery!

She'll be painting the walls that blue color that is above the dresser. Cute!

  2. i'm assuming since you said the existing paint was drippy that you did a lot of sanding on the dresser. how did you manage to get the curvy beveled edge sanded smooth, or did it start out pretty smooth even with the paint?

  3. Thanks!

Alicia - the edges were smooth already, but yes, i sanded the areas where there were lots of drips. if there had have been drips on the edges, i could've used a heavy grit paper (without any other tools, just my hands) and sanded them down.
