collect.

just trying to 'show' you guys some spots of our new home. nothing has been set in stone as far as furniture arrangement, etc, but for now, here is where my white & wooden collectibles live. i can't get this condo exactly how i want it until i can make a few purchases, so for now, it'll just have to do how it is. anyway this is at the little landing at the bottom of our stairs.

notice this is where the white wall ends, and the yucky yellow wall begins. the ceiling goes up two stories here,  and i refuse to paint that myself! so for now, until we close, it stays gross yellow. i am using the lack shelves from ikea here...has anyone else ever been disappointed at their holding power? they arent very sturdy!
here is the wood section. two mid-century bowls i have collected over the years, a miniature eames chair, and the return postcards from our wedding.
i found these glass bottles at a thrift store recently. they are really pretty, and i like the square shape of them.
the white shelf has, from left to right, a collection of skull erasers (from z gallerie a couple of years ago) that scare a lot of people, the glass bottles, a cat drink holder from benihana, a weird frame from a thrift store a few years ago, a giant clothespin also from a thrift store, and a little nest soapdish from CB2.
it's kind of nice because you can see the top shelf when you are coming down the stairs, even though it's not so visible from when you are standing on the same floor...

  1. I have these shelves. Do they kind of lean down? I can't get the bottom one to go straight out. If you're in the dining room and look into the living room, the shelf looks like it's slanting...like a lot.

  2. that's what i mean! when i look at them from our living area, the top one leans. it happened at our old house too, and by the time we moved out, it was realllllly noticeable. sometimes i really get annoyed at ikeas poor craftsmanship, but hey, the price is right, i guess :)
