Nursery With Stenciled Walls

I've hinted at posting the final after pics of this room several times, but just yesterday was when I got around to taking some shots of the loveliness! I got to meet the sweet babies that live in this beautiful room, and they are soooo precious. I was lucky to get to help a LOT in the preparation of their space, so it was extra-nice to meet the little guys that finally made their debut a few weeks ago!

I painted the nursery walls with one of my custom stencils back in April, but pretty soon after that Brooke (my client) was put on bedrest. I ended up swooping in and helping her out with some of the final plans and moves for the nursery (including selecting the fabrics and arranging furniture/accessories - so much fun), so it is so nice to see it ALL finally come together. Enough chit-chat, let me show you guys what we did!

This is the nursery after I painted the walls, with no furniture, window treatments, or accessories:

Brooke really had everything planned out, I just had to go and select fabrics and get the bedding and curtains made. We went with a white linen for the curtains, and a gray linen for the bedskirt and bolsters. I also found that fantastic gray embroidered fabric at Forsyth Fabrics here in Atlanta, that we had the decorative pillows on the chairs made with. I really love them!

here is the changing table area. The dresser is from Restoration Hardware, as are the shelves above it. I helped arrange the items on the shelves, and I also did the elephants painting that is resting on them (along with painting the frame!)

Brooke actually had her thank-you cards made with the drawing that I did of the elephants. That made me feel special. :) She just scanned the drawing in, and had them printed at Swoozie's on blank Crane cards.

Brooke had the great idea of framing both her and her husband's Christening gowns and we hung them above the beds. Her husband's is above the baby boy's bed, and her's is above the little girl's.

The detail of these frames has a slight distressing, that she wanted to mimic on the Jenny Lind beds. So, I did a slight distressing on the cribs:

She got two rocking chairs for the ends of the cribs, and those are the fantastic pillows that we had made! Don't you love that pattern? I also adore the little ceramic side tables that are on either sides of the chairs - they add a nice modern touch to the room. They also have an heir of a bohemian touch, which I think looks nice with the trellis stencil pattern.

Another great finishing touch that Brooke came up with, was to do these lanterns above one of the cribs. She wanted something to balance the verticality of the window on the other side of the wall, so she ordered these lanterns from Pottery Barn. They came in black, which we felt was a little dark for the room, so of course I painted them in silver!

I just removed each of the glass pieces, and sprayed them lightly with a metallic silver spraypaint. I hung them on metal hangers outside to make sure I got the whole thing! Also, incase anyone is wondering about the safety of the little lanterns, they are DEFINITELY not going anywhere. They are attached by several holes that Brooke's husband drilled into the ceiling, all the way to the upstairs bedroom, and secured onto the floor of the closet upstairs. Safety first!

lastly, was the ceiling fan! I painted it, too.

It was soooo great to be able to do so much in this nursery, and I'm so happy with how everything turned out. I joked to Brooke (when she asked me to help finish decorating the space, when she was placed on bedrest) that I felt like "Frank" on the movie "Father of the Bride" - finishing all the details and becoming part of the family, haha. Anyway, thanks to Brooke and Devin for having me help create this space, I can't wait to see those sweet babies again!
