i completed this look for one of my favorite clients yesterday, and we were both pleased with the results. however, i can't wait to see this nursery (for twins!) when it's totally finished being decorated. it's going to be so beautiful! i painted it for the client that i did this, this, and this for - so you can see that there is a common color scheme and style to all of the pieces. elegant neutrals, with lots of texture and metallics. i love it - her house is gorgeous.
anyway, onto the trellis wall. i create a stencil, and hand-traced every single one of these diamonds with a watercolor pencil, then painted in each one. time consuming, but worth it, i'd say!
the room was painted a cool gray (olympic's "gray goose" - yes, a funny name), and i came in with a soft metallic paint for the stencil.
i love how the light makes the stenciled areas different throughout the day. such a soft, elegant look for a baby's room.
(some of the paint looks funky in this shot, because it wasn't done drying)
looove this!! Looks great. I've been wanting to do this on my bathroom wall, but i've heard it's very time consuming.
ReplyDeletethank you! yeah, it's pretty time consuming. however, if you're doing just one bathroom wall, it might not be so bad. this took 3 days, but i have done just one wall in 1 day before! try it!

ReplyDeleteI love the subtlty of the color too- so pretty! question about teh WC pencils- so, you trace the stencil in the pencil then paint over it free hand- or while the stencil is still up?

ReplyDeleteI just love everything you do. I am continually impressed by your work...if only I lived in Atlanta. The little gray console I bought from you is happily living in my office. Mostly it is covered with files, but every once in a while, I get it cleaned off and admire its cuteness!
ReplyDeleteYou specifically noted you used watercolor pencils first to trace the pattern - could you explain why that type of pencil is best for this? Is it because it disappears under the paint?
