springtime happenings.

i don't have a "normal" post for you guys this morning. just a quick post of some different things that have been going on...photos from my phone.

i took this at providence antiques here in atlanta. i loved these little paintings...i thought they might be inspiration for my new, darker living room (and kitchen. and bathroom. and bedroom). i still have lots to show you guys in here...our sofa is currently being reupholstered, and it will be finished on wednesday. i can't wait!

we had a sprint flower planting day at our condo. i set my little gnome and mushrooms out in the "garden", and here they are. grow, flowers, grow! (fun story about this gnome: i've had it since about 2003 or so, where i bought it and it lived on the stoop of mine and my roommates' house in little 5 points. it disappeared for about a year, and we assumed someone stole it. we found out later that the punk rock band that lived in the house next door had stolen it, and taken it on tour with them. they claimed to have photos of it. little gnome returned back to me, safe and sound. but i'm sure his eyes have seen more than i have. he sits in retirement on my boring garden in grant park now.)

this is a sneak peek of something i'm working on at a restaurant right now. i'm painting clips of old signs, to make it look like they were there before the restaurant was built. i painted the "rust" and heavily distressed them, too..i thought this pig head was funny.

to gain inspiration for this project, i drove around a bit and took in some local old signs and graffiti. this is an old kodak ad on the side of a building on ponce de leon:

i like the "discount prices!" text at the top.

i took this one the other night at silverbacks park. my husband is now a player on the new atlanta silverbacks soccer team. if you are in atlanta, come!

i saved the best for last.

i took this photo of mika last night, and it is the funniest/awesomest photo i've ever taken of this dude (and i've probably taken 50000000000 photos of this little rascal). he was sitting in this funny little human-like position, so i was trying to capture that, but as i was taking the photo, he started yawning, which i just happened to catch as well. hilarious!

his pose reminded me of baloo from the jungle book:

  1. I love reading a blog in which so many of the street and area references are familiar! My husband and I were just up in your old neighborhood last week; we saw J. Mascis at The Earl. :)

  2. The first picture looks like that puppet is hanging itself! I guess it's just a cord (I hope ;])
Love your blog and seeing what you're painting (and regular pictures too)- always so lovely!

  5. I literally just laughed out loud in my cube at work at that last picture! I have an orange cat (that might be slightly over weight) - and while I have never seem him sit like that - I could totally picture it.
