i did the "sky" part of the mural yesterday...today, i will be adding the vines, birds, etc...
before:
after only one coat of glaze:
and, after several coats of glazing...
i bumped up the contrast a lot so you can see...but it's pretty obviously "sky" in person!
this is probably the most accurate to real life:
stand by...i'll be posting the pics of the final product soon!
Can't wait to see! What a beautiful bedroom to start out with though!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely! You work so fast! I can't wait to see your results!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! So cool. :) My friend has a recessed ceiling like that too and she loooves birds. Maybe I can convince her to get something like that done. But seriously, how are you not getting cricks in your neck and tired arms? Did you use a scaffold to lay on?
ReplyDeleteReally incredible. You are so talented. I always look forward to seeing your painting projects!

beautiful work, kdf! you are so inspiring! do you give any secrets away? i'm so curious how you did this... i would have thought just blue and white paint... but what's this glaze all about? is it a white glaze and you paint blue latex over it? or a blue glaze over it? sorry, i hope this isn't too annoying, but i would love to learn some tricks as i'm hoping to paint my kiddos room but don't know much about large scale murals... or maybe you have a book you recommend? okay, these questions are out of control! Sorry!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Great job and keep up the beautiful work!!
Can`t wait to see the whole ready room, but I Love your sky right now;)
ReplyDeleteLovely greetings...
jennifer lee - hmm, it's really hard to describe! glaze just sort of waters down paint, but it also makes it spreadable...that way, you get a more realistic cloud look, rather than just a cartoony feel. there may be youtube video tutorials!? good luck!
ReplyDeleteokay, so interesting! guess i'll just have to experiment! thanks so much for taking the time!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to do this in one of my babies rooms! Its part of my "dream nursery" plans :) I love your trim on your cathedral ceiling too! I have a cathedral in my room and its just painted the same color as my walls. Every night I stare at the poor boring ceiling that is just begging me for more creativity. Did you do the trim on it yourself? I would love to know more about it if you did :)
