a peek

a preview of the previously mentioned furniture, from my phone:

i am about to cook some dinner, so i thought i'd share a little preview of the piece. not sure whether the full 'after' will be up tomorrow or a few days from now...it's a desk, by the way...

inspiration today.

happy memorial day, friends. this morning, jordan and i went on a walk through oakland cemetary (you know, for memorial day memorial sake), and i am spending the rest of the day painting a piece of furniture, solely inspired by this jacket from j. crew. when you can't buy, you just spend your time dreaming about by painting.

beauty-ful, huh?

grey table found a home.

every time i sell a piece of furniture, i always ask my buyer to send me a pic of the furniture in its new home, if they get a chance to snap a photo. rarely do they actually send a pic, but miss laura (who bought my gray and yellow side table) sent me a pic of the table in its new home! don't you love her little accessories and the wall color?

Photobucket

thanks for sending, laura :)

a little vignette

until my sweet little robot monster chevron striped dresser sells, it will be living with me. sooo, i decided to cutesie it up a little, and turn it into a little vignette.

Photobucket

there she sits, with my crazy lady-with-a-horse thrift store artwork ( a lot of friends that come over ask if that is either a) michael jackson, or b) me. does this mean i resemble MJ? i love him, but i have no desire to look like him, except on the dance floor. thanks.), my cool new horse, AND some old soda bottles that i found on the side of the road this past weekend.

ooooooo:
Photobucket

ahhhhhhh:

at nighttime:

enough? ok, i'll stop. anyway, i found these assorted vintage soda bottles and a vintage body form on the side of the road this weekend, after someone's yard sale. score! AND, last week, a friend of a client (who reads this blog! hi sara!) gave me a chandelier! how nice is that? i went over to her pretty house to talk about some painting, and she gave me this awesome chandelier to makeover. so sweet!

desk makeover

yesterday, i had the fun task of making over a desk for one of my best friends. she and her husband had inherited this cute desk that had, unfortunately, seen better days. the finish was wearing off, and there were tons of dings and scratches in the surface. here is the before:

Photobucket

and, after:

Photobucket

i painted it in a distressed greyish color, then did the drawers a charcoal with hand-painted white flowers. we picked out the cute red knobs, and ta-da! desk makeover. i will go back and grab a few photos once everything is nice and cured, and she can put a lamp, etc, on it, but i thought i would share the after shots with you guys for now.

Photobucket

also, a special shout-out goes to gracie, kfd designs' newest employee ;)

louis xvi chairs

last week, i painted a client's set of 8 louis xvi chairs. they were bought at scott's, and i painted them to have an off-white distressed wood finish. eventually, they will sit around my client's dining room table (which will be a dark wood finish).

here they are before:

Photobucket

(obviously, they have been stripped of their original fabric here)

and here is one after:

Photobucket

Photobucket

i painted them with a faux wood product for the first layer (to give the impression that they were originally a dark wood), then a creamy white for the topcoat.

Photobucket

for an idea of what they will eventually look like, i am attaching some photos of pretty, reupholstered louis chairs:

Photobucket

in rooms:

Photobucket

ok, not really a room, but a similar finish on the chair!

when they are all finished, i'm going to be sure and get a photo of the final result - hopefully, i'll remember to share it here!

accent door, so to speak.

sooo, i'd been saving this photo on my desktop for a couple of weeks, considering painting our front door a crazy color with a white outline on the bevels (i was thinking coral, since it's my new fav color) a la:

Photobucket
(image from here)

then, this morning, i found this photo in the i suwannee blog archives, painted by none other than my newest design crush, mr nick olsen (who i saw at the SCADstyle panel last month):

Photobucket

Photobucket

and now that i have this sweet inspiration, consider it done. i should've warned jordan.

_____

sidenote: i've decided black is the new chocolate brown.

and, end post.

inspiration today.

if you've been reading this blog for a bit, you know some of my favorite things to paint are murals for kids and babies' rooms. look at this sweet baby nursery mural that i found here, via here. the entire nursery is precious, and i especially love that yellow crib and the dog lamp! the frame mural looks exactly like my kfd designs website as well - weird!

antiqued dresser

this dresser was a piece that my client had inherited, but having found this photo in a horchow catalog, decided that it might be nicer painted to look like the piece in the photo. enter: me. :)

the catalog clipping:
Photobucket

and here is the before shot of the dresser:

Photobucket

she has a ton of cornflower blues through her bedroom and entire house, so we were trying to go with a slightly more true blue color than the one in the photo. here is the final result!

Photobucket

with the other blues!

Photobucket

Photobucket

gigantic detail shot! (because i love the antiquing on this guy! it's so heavy, and i looooove heavy antiquing)

Photobucket

Photobucket

it's a little difficult to capture the exact color in the photos, because the room was dark when i took them, but you get the idea!

this week.

Photobucket
a little preview of what i worked on monday and tuesday. will post pics of the final look later today. :)
