more (non-furry) animal friends...

i did a little thrifting this past sunday, and found two adorable little animal friends that i knew i could transform for the baby nursery that i am helping decorate! as i mentioned, we are going for a (very loose) animal theme, involving lots of color and patterns, so i had my eye out for anything that i thought might add a little character to the room. plus, with price tags like .60 cents and 1.40, even if they don't get used, i'm not missin' out on much!

first, i found this elephant bookend. his finish/paintjob looked like it belonged in a beach condo in the '80's. i could not find his matching bookend, but i decided to take him home anyway, because i knew he would be the perfect thing to place on the end of some children's books in the baby nursery. next, i found this FABBBBULOUS ceramic giraffe--however, his paint job was far less-than-fabulous (who would paint that nature scene on a giraffe figurine, anyway? i don't get it.). his shape screams jonathan adler. i just loved him!

the little giraffe was missing one of his horns, so i used some fimo clay that i already had and made him one, then glued it on before spraypainting him...

this picture makes me laugh...

the elephant got a glossy coat of orange!

while the giraffe was sprayed a high-sheen white!
goodbye, fields of green!

the animals are living on my bookshelf until they make their way to the baby nursery...i think they like it here, anyway....

  5. Wow! They both turned out so well! Both pieces had such great shapes already, but the colours you used were perfect!
