i'm on a little "pet" project, if you will, right now. my client is a lady that has two-year-old twin girls that are really into princesses! she is transitioning them out of the "nursery" phase, and into the "little girl bedroom" phase. what better theme than princess, right?
i am having to paint over this almost canary-yellow bedroom -- it is REALLY no fun! i should've primed over the yellow, instead of painting the pink directly on top, because it is causing me to do 3 coats! anyway, here are the 'before' shots of it. all the walls, and part of the pretty trey ceiling are yellow:
notice the wooden dresser against the wall to the right in this bedroom, and the small night stand next to the rocking chair...i am giving them a makeover too...
here is the dresser, after a couple coats of paint...i am giving it that 'shabby chic' look...a very refined distressed look. here it is before i put on the new knobs:
preeetty knobs! i love they way they look in the sunlight, and the almost peachy shade of pink they are. the dresser was totally transformed from drab to princess-y! and it cost WAY less than buying new furniture, that's for sure (which is what she was going to do initially, until i suggested other wise!)
here is the coordinating night-stand:
before the third coat of paint:
here is the ceiling while i was in the middle of doing the cut-in lines with the brush...i'm pretty sure my neck will be aching tomorrow morning...but it looks SO much better already.
i painted the first part of the trey the pale pink, to match the walls (it will later have sweet "castle" windows painted on!), and the top layer of the ceiling, the trim, and the very highest layer of the ceiling are painted a pale blue -- it's going to be painted like the sky! it's supposed to be like you are looking out of the castle turret into the sky :)
i was initially going to paint JUST the area where the ceiling fan is hanging to look like the sky, but i decided i needed more sky space, since the ceiling fan takes up most of the visual area.
walls are this nice new dusty pink color. note to self: stop doing basecoats, and hire a handyman (i always do this to myself :)
this project is about to get way more fun -- i will be doing a couple of "castle windows" in the room, and the "sky" ceiling, like i said. we are trying to keep this very light and elegant - not cheesy, so i am hoping the end result is just that! i hope princess mary and princess sara love their new princess room.
stay tuned for more pics of the fun progress...
