cute lil bar

my mom and i found this old bamboo side table at a yard sale for $5 last summer. it was wood, originally, and i primed it then spray painted it pink. to totally set it off, i bought some cute paper at "paper source" and modge-podged it onto the top. i love the way it turned out!

i decided i wanted to make a cute little bar in my dining room with the table, but i don't really drink liquor (other than tequila - bring on the margaritas!), so i was thinking i would have to go out and buy liquor just so my "bar" could be cute. not so, my friends. true to my mother's way of thinking, i decided to rummage through recycling bins in my 'hood until i found a few cute liquor bottles to put on the bar. cleaned 'em and filled 'em with water and now they're cute as can be! a few moments of embarrassment while looking like a homeless person saved me a pretty penny.

the before:
after! (i made those little flag garlands, too!) i really love it, if i do say so myself.

chair makeover!

i had a really fun project recently, and i can't wait to share some of the before & after pics with you guys. for starters, here's (i think?) my favorite makeover out of the bunch. my client bought this old wooden office chair off of craigslist, and wanted me to paint it a saffron color to match the pillows in her guest bedroom/office.

i wanted to tie in something a bit more artistic to the look, so i came up with the idea to paint a design onto the seat of the chair so that if she ever gets tired of the print, she can simply cover it up with a pillow. i painted these sweet birds to mimic the dwell studio pillow on the bed, sitting opposite the chair! i really love the way it all came out.

just wanted to let everyone know that i am now doing 'custom orders' for weddings! i have had two brides commission me to do earrings for their bridesmaids (and even one bride's pair - which i'm super-excited about!), so i just wanted to let everyone know!

it's always so much nicer to have something hand-made to give to your bridesmaids, and something that is exactly the color/look you had in mind to begin with. anyway, if anyone is interested, you can email me at

daring young man on his flying trapeze

i loved the paper!

i know this is a really easy notion - but now it's making me think of all of the other things i can cover in lovely scrapbooking paper from michael's...

as you see on the second picture, i trimmed it so the little cutie circus man and his lions would be front & center. i had left over paper too, and covered a jar to be a vase!

jonathan adler design

i love this recent work from house beautiful's may edition. it's liz lange's pad, with interior design by my favorite designer of all time, jonathan adler. i love how light and airy it is, even though adler uses such heavy pieces.

oh - and in the kitchen, he used ikea cabinets! how wonderful. i like these cabinets because they are white, but aren't too "country," if ya know what i'm sayin'. i like the more modern lines, but still accented with some frilly pieces.

mat switcheroo

so i bought a few frames for my new prints i told you guys about, but when i got home, the mats were off by about a half inch each. argh!!! sooo, today, i went to michael's and asked an employee about getting a mat cut. she said that you had to either buy an entire large piece of mat ($14), or they could cut one for you (even more $). she seemed perplexed that i would even ask about such a thing, so i decided to ditch that plan and come up with another one later.

while i was walking to the check out area, i noticed pieces of foam for kids' crafts that were 99 cents. i thought that if i cut one with a razor, it would be very similar to the look of mat board. in a photography class in college, we learned to cut mats for our prints, but it was always pretty difficult to cut the mat board because it was very thick (it would slip-slide away, etc). buuut with the foam, it's like cutting a banana with a knife (weird example? yes.)

check it, don't wreck it:

"fun foam"
this is the only part i think you would have to have a bit of creativity for - you have to measure whatever you want framed (artwork, picture, etc), and make sure that you cut your lines to make a rectangle that would be smaller than your item to be framed. pretty much a no-brainer though, and if you can measure, you can do it

foam board

(it's a little off, but i wasn't in the mood to get it exact. this was a test-run, anyway.

and, with it's new friend!

faux woodgraining

this is the job that i am working on right now. the client has several pieces of cabinetry throughout his home that are made of MDF (not real wood - almost like condensed particle-board, sprayed with white paint, incase you aren't familiar) that i am faux-painting to look like real wood. it's kind of cool, so i thought i'd share some pics:

water damage & chipping around the cabinets... had to sand it all down (notice the knobs and hinges - painted those too!):

annnnnd, after!

(the hinges that i painted are already on, still haven't placed the newly painted knobs back on yet)

bread & butter

I just bought these two letter pressed piece of artwork from bread & butter's etsy shop

pretty awesome, no?

back in the day (college...ok 3 years ago...), i would trade screenprints and presses with friends so we would all add to our little art collections. i just framed and hung a friend's print from a printmaking class in my bathroom this weekend, so it gave me the idea to search for a few more pieces of artwork on etsy to hang. i will probably frame the top one (don't you just love the little sentiment?), kind of like this, but with a white frame:

two two-colored floral patterns i could see painting onto a small accent wall or a small space, like this entry way:

(i can't wait to have a house to play around with - when you do something like this, it's a lot of work, so you don't really want it to be a rental space, know what i'm sayin'??)

sunshine after the rain

it has been raining nonstop here in georgia. in my life - literally and figuratively. i had a very busy, rushed and sad week. we had a family member pass away, so i have kind of been on  a hiatus for respects' sake and because i have been a little down.

right now, missing childhood and lost times. nostalgia.

.   .   .   .   .

will be back soon with normal posts!
