I got a thing for text

little drawings done mostly in class, during college, that I found. Don't get yourself into a fit trying to decode the words, they're all just songs that were stuck in my head at the time I was drawing.

don't leavvve me!

it's a sad, sad day. conde nast announced that domino magazine will no longer be in publication after the march '09 issue.

the only magazine i've had a subscription to since it first came out in 2005.

this is the saddest thing about the economic crisis if you ask me. ok, maybe i shouldn't say that, but it makes me really sad. :( do you want me to say the word 'sad' again?

These are some paintings I did for a client in Athens...she already had a big watercolor that she wanted to go in the center, between these two, (in her new baby's nursery!) so these dragonflies are accent pieces. This was a fun, different, project. I rarely use watercolors, but I do really love them!

indoor tee pees

in college, my roommates and I used to build 'tents' inside our living room, and hang out in them all the time. We would leave them up for weeks. We built them so that the t.v. was included inside the tent, and generally strung up christmas lights somewhere inside the tent for ambiance. Awesome.

lots of places are carrying 'tee pees' for kids' rooms these days, but I say:

a. build your own (don't buy one!)
b. they're not just for kids!

Orla Kiely

like most folks, I'm pretty excited for the orla kiely designs to hit target...hurry up already!

paint your walls!

Ever since this girl first posted about her doing a sort of "accent wall" (I don't accent walls, generally, which is another subject for another day...) in her bathroom one weekend, and posted the photos of the "in-between" process, I've been curious about the outcome .... look how cute it turned out!

These geometrical type prints are super-hard to pull off, so her work is really impressive! And incase you didn't know, latticework is all the rage.

bedroom re-do

here goes a little artistic rambling, if you will.

Everyone loves order...everyone loves a home with a nice clean look; put-together, organized, no dirty dishes on the counter, etc. But that's not real life, folks...photoshoots for design magazines always have complete order and balance. There is usually symmetry and smoothness. Anyway, I'm saying all that to say that lately, I really have come to like and appreciate the beauty in real life. I find that disorder and messiness conveys a certain realness that shows you what a person is about; their life and their taste. Beauty in the raw. No make-up, messy-hair, kinda stuff. I love that.

So, when I redid my bedroom, I wanted it to be clutter-free, but real. No fussy decorative pillows on the bed (Jordan was happy about this), and not much clogging up tabletops and ledges. I even sort of love the fact that our tv is a giant black monstrosity sitting on top of a pretty dresser that is completely white and almost dainty. It's a funny balance of style and life that makes me smile.

that, coupled with the fact that I didn't want to spend any money re-doing our bedroom was sort of my inspiration for the look. Clean. Whites/neutrals. Raw. Real.

I'll be back later with info about some of the tricks I did and artwork I sort of made off the cuff for my room.

black and white striped entryways...

I used to have a black-and-white striped entry way like this myself...a little something I did at that cave of a home that I used to live in. One day I was bored, had some left over black paint, and decided to paint black stripes on top of my white walls in the "entryway" of the apartment (SO TINY) was really cute, and I loved it! (I wish I had a picture for you...sorry) I think entryways are wonderful little areas to express yourself, because you don't have to sit in that area and be distracted by walk in, enjoy, and walk out.

Ok, guys, I'm trying something new. At an attempt to have some order and consistency in my blog (and because it's fun), I want to try out a little before/after help with my readers (all 5 of you! Yes! We can do different rooms in your houses, over and over!). So, here's the deal: send me a photo of a room or a project you know needs a little creative tackle, and I will help you out with it, then share it with the internets.

~Got a room that needs a little re-arranging, but you can't figure out just
how the furniture should be moved?

~An old cupboard or table could use a makeover, but you haven't come
up with the perfect plan?

~Do you have a little bit of cash saved to buy some accessories or a piece
of furniture, but can't decide what it is that you should get, exactly?

...let me help you out! send at least one (or more!)
photo to me at, and
I will try and answer your questions!

new look

not sure if I totally like the new look I made tonight, but I was going for a more minimal/clean look for the new year. Keepin' it simple and goin' back to the basics.

Things I have done to clean up shop for the new year:

- using up gift cards (I hate having them clutter up my wallet and it's nice getting new stuff for free! ha)

- cleaned up/out all of the photo files on my computer

- had macbook keyboard/handpad replaced, therefore it's a lot cleaner (there is some kind of problem with the model that I have where the pad crushes...not cool, Apple.)

- new look for blog!

I have been tagggged by the hilarious and beautiful Ashley of to do a little question/answer game because she likes my blog! Yahoooo..Ashley and I share a love for Edward Cullen, margaritas, and The Office and Big Love..and I'm sure a lot more that we will soon learn about when we are in a friend's wedding together in a few weeks. Anyway, there is a cute little sticker thingie that goes with the tag, but I don't feel like putting effort into figuring out how to do the sticker thing, so we will just go with the questions. 3. your hair color: brown

hint, hint...

OK, I re-did my bedroom on Monday. The entire thing. I am waiting for some lamps to come in from CB2 that I ordered (they don't count as purchasing anything, because I had a gift certificate!) before I take photos and show you guys! I am really happy with the outcome. I did it in all white. (my bedroom at my old apartment was all-white too...) I think I mentioned before that I would love to have an all-white/neutral home..I don't know that I could ever totally do it, because I love color so much as well, but don't you think the calming affect it has is really nice? These photos (and many more) are really inspirational...I'm very happy with the outcome of my re-do, and can't wait to show you guys the results. I did lots of painting and came up with some fun ideas that I think are really great. I love the contrast of having a huge graphic statement like a uniform color scheme, paired with old items or woven or rough items to contrast is great. I'll show you what I mean in a couple of days...come on, CB2!!

in other news, business is slow right now, so if you need some artwork/paintwork done, please contact! My website will be launching soon, so stay tuned for that, too...

oh, and check the etsy for LOTS more jewelry, including great vintage-ey cocktail rings, and delicate necklaces...

I am going to attempt to completely redecorate my bedroom without buying anything...all painting and rearranging and using what I have....stay tuned...

Stenciled Wall

I've been thinking a bit about just painting on the wall when you need some new artwork. I love this example of what I've been thinking about. See the cute little tear-drop shaped stencil above the fireplace? Cute!

things I must get done today:

1. find a new home for photos/dvd's/cd's
2. clean out litterbox
3. pick up bridesmaid's dress
4. make a scrap/photobook for my Italy trip of '06 (eek, a little behind on this?)

Bird Winerack

Remember when I was talking about that bird winerack from Target?

Well, I went there the other day, in hopes of getting some good Christmas clearance items, and lo and behold -- my little winerack was on sale for 6 dollars! Down from 25! Yay!

(sorry for the ugly photo)
